10 Hors-champs in the show

ARE WE IN THE SHOW?

Hun werk is te zien in talrijke openbare collecties (BPS22 (Charleroi), FRAC Bourgogne (Dijon), FRAC Pays-de-la-Loire (Carquefou), Stichting Kanal (Brussel), S.M.A.K. (Gent), alsook in diverse privécollecties.

10 Hors-champs in the show

LMNO is pleased to invite you to the monographic exhibition 10 Hors-champs in the show by Denicolai & Provoost.

In the wake of the one dedicated to them by S.M.A.K. (visible until May 30, 2021) we present a set of pieces based on their animated film HELLO, ARE WE IN THE SHOW ?, 2020.

This cartoon (awarded the Authors? Prize at the ANIMA Festival in 2019) occupied them for nearly 10 years and originated from observations in the heart of the Forêt de Soignes.
The choice made by the artists consists in showing us the relationship between all living things, including man, of which he only appears in an underlying way.

The work 10 Hors-champs in the show is a new production.
In the form of a metal box on wheels with a bottom lined with green felt, 10 film prints, 10 stills from the cartoon are unveiled.
Like a kamishibai (paper theater wandering in Japan), the images can be suspended in the upper pane of the box and thus make two images dialogue.
We come across expanses of water or sky, a few animals present by a minimal portion of their body, etc. The number of views allows a hundred combinations.

The preparatory drawings for the staging of their exhibition at S.M.A.K in Ghent will also be present.
We can see their enthusiasm for building a dense project that finally allows them to fully experience this practice where otherness, surprise and sharing interact with museum codes, nature and dreams.

In the exhibition will also be presented original drawings dating from 2012 at the basis of the genesis of the project.

On a sidewalk sign, the artists affixed an Egyptian Goose which, like the content of the animated film, brings together natural and urban spaces.

Simona Denicolai and Ivo Provoost have been working together since the mid-90s. Their practices take various forms ranging from drawing, to sculptures, installations to performances or even animated films.

They question the small and the big history through unique interventions allowing each of us to question ourselves about society and our way of participating in it.

Their works are present in many public collections (BPS22 (Charleroi), FRAC Bourgogne (Dijon), FRAC Pays de la Loire (Carquefou), Fondation Kanal (Brussels), SMAK (Ghent), as well as in many private collections.

Exhibition date: April 29 to June 19, 2021.

From Thursday to Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment.
